Minor Hotels Joins Forces with Royal Holdings to Expand Luxury Portfolio in Japan

(IN SHORT) Minor Hotels has partnered with Royal Holdings to form Royal Minor Hotels Co., Ltd., marking the company’s entry into Japan’s luxury and lifestyle hotel market. The joint venture will develop 21 hotels across Japan under the Anantara, Avani, and Tivoli brands by 2035, leveraging Minor Hotels’ global expertise and Royal’s local market knowledge.

(PRESS RELEASE) Bangkok, Thailand, 2025-Jan-31 — /Travel PR News/ — Minor International Public Company Limited (MINT), the parent company of Minor Hotels, has announced a landmark strategic partnership with Royal Holdings Co., Ltd. (Royal), a prominent Tokyo Stock Exchange-listed operator of hotels and restaurants. This partnership marks Minor Hotels’ entry into Japan’s thriving luxury and lifestyle hotel market, setting the stage for significant expansion in the region.

Together, the two companies have formed Royal Minor Hotels Co., Ltd., a 50/50 joint venture that will work to deliver unparalleled hospitality experiences across Japan. Through this venture, Minor Hotels will introduce its globally recognized brands—Anantara, Avani, and Tivoli—to the Japanese market, in collaboration with leading real estate developers. The goal is to develop a total of 21 hotels by 2035, utilizing a combination of management agreements and lease arrangements. The official establishment of Royal Minor Hotels Co., Ltd. is slated for March 2025.

This partnership builds on a long-standing relationship between MINT and Royal, which began with a successful franchise collaboration on the Sizzler brand in Japan. This foundation of trust and mutual objectives has now paved the way for a deeper engagement in the Japanese luxury hospitality sector.

Royal, with its deep knowledge of the local market and a proven track record in operating 43 Richmond Hotels nationwide through its subsidiary, RNT HOTELS CO., Ltd., brings invaluable expertise to the joint venture. By combining this local insight with Minor Hotels’ extensive global hospitality experience, the partnership aims to craft a unique offering that blends Japanese sensibilities with international luxury, appealing to both domestic and international travelers.

Masataka Abe, President and Representative Director of Royal, expressed: “This partnership marks a major milestone in our efforts to bring world-class hospitality to Japan. By combining our in-depth understanding of the Japanese market with Minor Hotels’ global expertise in luxury hospitality, we are poised to create unique and unforgettable experiences for travelers.”

Dillip Rajakarier, Group CEO of Minor International and CEO of Minor Hotels, added: “We are excited to further expand in Japan, a key market for our global growth. This partnership with Royal will allow us to offer exceptional, culturally rich experiences to guests while bringing the world-class excellence of our brands to Japan’s luxury and lifestyle sectors.”

The joint venture will target key business and leisure destinations in Japan, meeting the growing demand for premium travel experiences. With Minor Hotels’ established reputation for luxury and Royal’s operational strength and market knowledge, the partnership is poised for success, creating properties that cater to a diverse range of high-end travelers.

Additionally, the partnership will leverage GHA DISCOVERY, Minor Hotels’ award-winning loyalty program, to drive customer loyalty and engagement. This program will offer exclusive benefits and personalized experiences to members, helping to attract a new generation of travelers to the growing portfolio of hotels in Japan.
