Mineta San José International Airport recognized with 2022 Airport Efficiency Excellence Award by Air Transport Research Society

SJC has been named the most efficient airport in the 5-15 million passengers category in North America

San José, Calif., 2022-Sep-01 — /Travel PR News/ — Air Transport Research Society (ATRS), one of the most reputable aviation research societies, has awarded Mineta San José International Airport (SJC) the 2022 Airport Efficiency Excellence Award, for being the most efficient airport in the 5-15 million passengers category in North America, based on 2020 financial year data.

SJC Airport Director John Aitken said, “We are extremely honored by this global recognition of the Airports team’s hard work and dedication, as efficiency has always been a priority for us. We are delighted that were able to maintain this goal even through one of the most challenging times in our
airport’s history.”

The ATRS Global Airport Benchmarking Report measures and compares the performance of several important aspects of airport operations: productivity and efficiency, unit costs and cost competitiveness, financial results and airport charges. The report also examines the relationships between various performance measures and airport characteristics as well as management, strategies to provide a better understanding of observed differences in airport performance, and it includes more than 200 airports from Asia Pacific, Europe and North America. The results were obtained following a year-long research effort by the ATRS Global Airport Benchmarking Task Force.

Since 1995, The Air Transport Research Society has aimed to enhance research capability for truly multi-national and multi-disciplinary issues on air transportation, to interact with international and national institutions which deal with policy and infrastructure issues concerning international aviation, and to facilitate the exchange of ideas. The ATRS Annual Global Airport Performance Benchmarking Project was initiated at University of British Columbia (Canada) in 2000 and is currently hosted at David B. O’Maley College of Business, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Daytona Beach, FL (USA). Mineta San José International Airport is the first airport in the Bay Area to win this prestigious award.
