Mineta San José International Airport Information on All Nippon Airways and Grounding of Dreamliner Fleet on January 15, 2013

2013-01-18 — /travelprnews.com/ — All Nippon Airways (ANA) announced grounding its fleet of 17 Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft (see ANA statements below) on January 15 (PST). Subsequently, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) ordered the grounding of all U.S. registered Dreamliners on January 16.

What this means for Mineta San José International Airport (SJC) travelers at this point is cancellation of flights between San José and Narita International Airport (NRT) in Tokyo on Wednesday, January 16 and Friday, January 18 only. ANA operates five-weekly NRT-SJC flights (there is no scheduled service on Tuesday and Thursday).

Cancelled ANA service is Flight #1076 (NRT-SJC) with scheduled arrival of 10:10 a.m. and Flight #1075 (SJC-NRT) with scheduled departure of 11:45 a.m.

The next ANA flights between NRT and SJC are scheduled to operate on January 19, and we may know more about the status of this service soon.

ANA is rebooking passengers on the cancelled SJC flights on both ANA and other airlines through other West Coast airports.

Before the Dreamliner flights were grounded, ANA flights between SJC and (NRT) arrived and departed as scheduled since ANA inaugurated Boeing 787 Dreamliner service at SJC on January 11, 2013.

SJC is supportive of ANA’s decision as the safety of passengers is the airline’s first priority. The City of San José is confident about ANA’s commitment to both passengers and SJC.

1) Following FAA and Japanese MLIT’s directive, ANA has issued the following statement.

ANA notes the directive issued by the FAA on 16th January 2012. ANA confirms that it is fully complying with the TCD (Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Civil Aviation Bureau Directive) issued today by MLIT and continues to work closely with the Japanese authorities and Boeing to ensure the safety of our 787 service. We apologize for any inconvenience caused to our customers.

2) We are continuing to ground all seventeen 787s on January 18, and below are the cancelled flights.

Cancellation for Friday, January 18
– 24 domestic flights (4,100 passengers affected)
– 6 international flights (700 passengers affected) including Haneda-Beijing, Narita-Seattle, and Narita-San Jose.
