Finnair Unveils Major Nordic Network Expansion: New Routes to Alta, Enhanced Summer Services to Tromsø, Ivalo-Kirkenes, and Increased Flights to Nordic Capitals, Bolstering Year-Round Connectivity in the Region
(IN SHORT) Finnair is set to expand its Nordic services by launching new routes, including a five-times-weekly flight from Kittilä to Alta starting 29 March 2026, operated with a 68-seat ATR aircraft. Additionally, summer services to Tromsø from Helsinki via Rovaniemi will increase, as will frequencies on the Ivalo to Kirkenes route. Extra flights to Nordic capitals such as Stockholm, Copenhagen, and Reykjavik are also planned for summer 2026, along with enhanced services to Billund, Visby, Bodø, and Mariehamn during peak season. These developments underscore Finnair’s commitment to offering convenient, year-round connectivity across the Nordic region, while providing customers with options to combine their journeys with cruise experiences along the Norwegian coast.
(PRESS RELEASE) VANTAA, 2025-Apr-9 — /Travel PR News/ — Finnair is expanding its Nordic network by launching new services to sought-after destinations, including a new route to Alta in Northern Norway. Beginning 29 March 2026 and running until 22 October 2026, Finnair will operate five weekly flights to Alta via Kittilä using a 68-seat ATR aircraft. Known for its arctic landscapes, rich outdoor adventures, and captivating northern lights, Alta has become an increasingly popular destination for cruise ship passengers as well.
In addition, Finnair will enhance its summer schedule by operating five weekly flights from Helsinki via Rovaniemi to Tromsø, a Norwegian coastal city that until now has only been served during the winter season. The airline is also boosting its summer frequencies on the Ivalo to Kirkenes route, increasing services by two weekly flights compared to this summer.
“Northern destinations are attracting more travelers in search of authentic nature experiences even in the warmer months. Our network, which extends through Lapland into Northern Norway, offers customers a convenient way to explore multiple Nordic destinations within one trip – they can even combine their visit with a cruise along the Norwegian coast,” said Perttu Jolma, Finnair’s Vice President of Network.
Finnair will also add extra frequencies to key Nordic capitals during summer 2026. Stockholm and Copenhagen will each receive seven additional weekly flights, and Reykjavik will see two more weekly services. For the peak summer season—from early June to early August—Finnair plans to increase frequencies to Billund, Visby, and Bodø*, along with two weekly flights to Mariehamn in the Åland Islands. The airline is also making it easier for travelers to catch the spring skiing season in Lapland, with significant increases in weekly flights from Ivalo and Kittilä in April 2026.
*Between 8.6.-9.8.2026: Billund – 8 weekly flights; Visby – 7 weekly flights; Bodø – 6 weekly flights
**Between 30.3.-26.4.2026: Ivalo – 17 weekly flights; Kittilä – 23 weekly flights; 27.4.-3.5.2026: Ivalo – 13 weekly flights; Kittilä – 19 weekly flights
