Charleston, S.C., 2014-10-23 — /Travel PR News/ — Officers Donald Stewart and Kevin McGowan of the Aviation Authority Police Department will be honored for saving the life of a passenger that suffered a heart attack at Charleston International this past summer.
Both officers will receive departmental commendations at the start of the Oct. 23, Aviation Authority Board meeting. The meeting begins at 10 a.m.
The commendations are for “outstanding service and performance of duty” in connection with an Aug. 29 medical emergency in which a passenger had suffered a heart attack. The passenger was unconscious and not responding. Officers Stewart and McGowan acted quickly to perform life-saving measures using defibrillators installed in the airport. They were able to revive the passenger before EMS arrived to stabilize and move the man to an area hospital.
“Officer Stewart and Officer McGowan’s professional conduct that day reflected most favorably upon them, the police department and the Charleston County Aviation Authority,” said Al Britnell, deputy director of airports for administration and public safety. “Their quick actions and life-saving measures contributed greatly to the passenger’s recovery.”
