The Virginia Governor’s Mansion is the oldest continuously occupied governor’s residence in the United States. This Federal-style structure has been the home of Virginia Governors and their families since 1813. During the Civil War, the Mansion served as the center of state leadership (when Richmond was the capitol of the Confederate States of America).
