Wizz Air deploys its 6th Airbus A320 aircraft at its Katowice base

BUDAPEST, Hungary, 2017-Mar-09 — /Travel PR News/ — Wizz Air, the largest low-cost airline in Central and Eastern Europe, today celebrates the deployment of the 6th Airbus A320 aircraft at its Katowice base. The additional aircraft allows the airline to launch four new routes to such popular holiday destinations as Catania on the island of Sicily, Lisbon in Portugal, Reykjavik in Iceland and Malta.

The aircraft represents an investment of $98 million* by WIZZ in Katowice, creating 36 additional direct jobs with the airline. Wizz Air now has more than 200 dedicated local crew based at Katowice Airport, who deliver excellent onboard service on each WIZZ flight.

Wizz Air also announced that it will start operating a new route from Katowice, which will connect Silesia with Split at the Croatian seaside. The newest WIZZ route will commence on 18 June and will be operated with two weekly flights, on Wednesdays and Sundays.  Seats on the new route are already on sale and can be booked from PLN 169/ EUR 39.99 ** on wizzair.com.

Split is a popular holiday destination on the eastern shore of the Adriatic Sea. As the main transport hub in the region, the city is also a link to numerous nearby islands.

Since its first flight in 2004, Wizz Air has constantly expanded its Katowice network. In 2016, Wizz Air carried over 1,6 million passengers on its Katowice routes supporting more than 1,200 local jobs***. With its five new routes starting in 2017, Wizz Air will have 2,1 million seats on sale on its Katowice routes in 2017, which represents a 13% growth year over year.

WIZZ now offers a total of 37 routes to 18 countries from Katowice Airport.
