(PRESS RELEASE) Cartagena, Colombia, 2024-Nov-16 — /Travel PR News/ — The United Nations Tourism Organization (UN Tourism) announced the winners of its “Innovation Challenge: Community Tourism: Colombia” during the 122nd Executive Council session in Cartagena. Organized in partnership with Colombia’s Vice Ministry of Tourism and FONTUR, the challenge aimed to identify leaders and projects advancing community-based tourism across Colombia with a focus on inclusivity, sustainability, and resilience. Five categories highlighted outstanding initiatives: Comunidad del Encanto (Boyacá) for gamified tourism, Lunaris (Nariño) for conservation storytelling, Chiritour (Chocó) for cultural tourism, the Museum of Art and Memory (Bolivar) for social empowerment, and Check for sustainable travel services.
UN Tourism’s Executive Director, Natalia Bayona, emphasized the role of community tourism in empowering diverse groups and creating opportunities in Colombia. UN Tourism’s Innovation Network has supported thousands of entrepreneurs and raised over $74 million, aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals.
