The Indianapolis Airport Authority to host St. Vincent Flyaway 5K cancer run/walk charity event on Sept. 15

Charity event offers ‘a unique experience on the airfield’

INDIANAPOLIS, 2018-Aug-07 — /Travel PR News/ — The Indianapolis Airport Authority will hold its first-ever run/walk charity event on the airfield of the Indianapolis International Airport (IND) in mid-September.

Holding the event on the airfield will provide a unique and memorable location for the annual St. Vincent Flyaway 5K cancer run/walk event. Republic Airways is co-hosting the event, which is presented by Turner Construction Company and will benefit cancer patients through St. Vincent Cancer Care. More than 2,000 participants are expected, including spectators.

“This is a great cause to support, and an exciting setting for a family fitness challenge,” said IAA Executive Director Mario Rodriguez. “We encourage everyone to come out and get a unique experience on the airfield and support those in our community who are courageously tackling cancer head on.”

The event will include health and fitness vendor displays, and a family-friendly airport experience with cockpit and aircraft tours.

The 5K run/walk will kick off at 9 a.m. on Sept. 15, starting and finishing at the Republic Airways hangar at the Indy airport, and running through the airfield along a runway with planes taking off and landing in the near distance. All proceeds from the event will support St. Vincent cancer patients and their families who are and have been affected by the disease.

“Individuals and teams can participate in the Flyaway 5K,” said Nancy Frick, vice president of the development with the St. Vincent Foundation. “It’s a chance to support a loved one whose life has been affected, bring the families and communities together, and help raise money for patients and families battling cancer.”

Since 2009, the annual St. Vincent run/walk event has raised more $2 million to support patients and families facing cancer at St. Vincent. One hundred percent of the funds raised by participants of the event stays local and supports cancer patients and families by financing programs and services like art therapy, cancer survivorship programs, mobile cancer screening vans and much more.
