Star Alliance strengthens global network with new LAX facility improving passenger transfers and connection reliability
(IN SHORT) Star Alliance has opened a new Star Connection Centre at Los Angeles International Airport, its ninth globally, to improve the efficiency of passenger transfers between member airlines. Serving one of its busiest hubs, the centre uses advanced systems to identify passengers at risk of missing connections and provides real-time assistance to ensure smooth onward travel. Supporting more than 350,000 connecting passengers annually at LAX, the initiative strengthens coordination among member airlines and enhances the overall travel experience. The new facility builds on Star Alliance’s long-standing network of connection centres and reinforces its commitment to delivering seamless multi-airline journeys worldwide.
(PRESS RELEASE) SINGAPORE, 2026-Mar-23 — /Travel PR News/ — Star Alliance has expanded its global network of transfer support facilities with the opening of a new Star Connection Centre (SCC) at Los Angeles International Airport, further enhancing its ability to deliver seamless multi-airline travel experiences. The new centre marks the Alliance’s ninth facility worldwide and strengthens operations at one of its busiest hubs in North America.
Los Angeles International Airport plays a key role within the Star Alliance network, with more than 350,000 passengers each year connecting between member airlines. The newly opened SCC is designed to improve the transfer experience for passengers with tight connections, particularly when delays risk disrupting onward travel plans.
The centre uses advanced monitoring tools to identify passengers whose connections may be at risk due to incoming flight delays. Dedicated teams then coordinate support in real time, ensuring affected travellers are met upon arrival and guided efficiently to their next departure, helping to minimize missed connections.
Ambar Franco, Vice President of Customer Experience at Star Alliance, highlighted the importance of delivering a smooth and unified journey across multiple airlines. She noted that the SCC concept brings together member airlines to provide consistent support, regardless of the carriers involved, reinforcing the Alliance’s commitment to a seamless global travel experience.
While passengers benefit from a straightforward and stress-free transfer process, the coordination behind the scenes involves close collaboration among airline teams. Agents continuously monitor connection times and proactively intervene when needed, ensuring that passengers and their baggage are managed effectively across different flights and terminals.
Star Alliance has been operating connection centres for over a decade, supporting both passenger and baggage transfers at major international hubs. In addition to Los Angeles, passenger-focused centres are located in Brussels, Chicago, Frankfurt, and Toronto, while baggage-focused centres operate in Houston, Newark, Washington Dulles, and San Francisco.
Currently, 16 Star Alliance member airlines operate at Los Angeles International Airport, offering more than 2,000 weekly flights to over 80 destinations across more than 20 countries. The addition of the new SCC further strengthens the Alliance’s ability to manage complex transfer flows at this key gateway, enhancing reliability and customer satisfaction across its global network.
