Radisson Hotel Group Sets Sustainability Milestone with First Two Verified Net Zero Hotels in Manchester and Oslo

(IN SHORT) Radisson Hotel Group celebrates the launch of its first two Verified Net Zero hotels in Manchester and Oslo, achieving a significant milestone in sustainable hospitality. These properties meet the strict Net Zero certification requirements, reducing carbon emissions through 100% renewable energy, low-carbon menus, and waste reduction practices. This initiative underscores Radisson’s commitment to becoming Net Zero by 2050 and sets a new standard for environmentally responsible hotels.

(PRESS RELEASE) BRUSSSELS, 2025-May-19 — /Travel PR News/ — Radisson Hotel Group has achieved a major sustainability milestone, announcing its first two hotels to receive Verified Net Zero certification. Radisson Hotel Manchester City Centre and Radisson RED Oslo City Centre are the first properties in the group to meet the Net Zero Methodology for Hotels, adhering to the stringent 2040 requirements. The certification, verified by TÜV Rheinland, marks a significant leap towards Radisson’s vision for sustainable hospitality and sets a new benchmark in the industry for reducing environmental impact.

The Radisson Hotel Manchester City Centre, formerly known as Park Inn by Radisson, will officially complete its transition to a Verified Net Zero Hotel on May 19, 2025, following an extensive renovation. Radisson RED Oslo City Centre will begin operations as a Verified Net Zero Hotel in July 2025, as part of Radisson’s broader strategy to integrate sustainability into all of its operations.

Both hotels achieved Verified Net Zero status by addressing their carbon footprint across all three emission scopes. The action plan includes reducing energy consumption by utilizing 100% renewable energy for all hotel functions—heating, cooling, hot water, cooking, and spa services—through electrification or renewable energy purchases. In addition, operational and supply chain emissions, including food and beverage services and transportation, were minimized by reevaluating suppliers and implementing energy-efficient practices.

To offset the remaining emissions, Radisson has partnered with Agreena, Europe’s leading soil carbon program, to use carbon credits from regenerative farming practices that support over 2,300 farmers across 4.5 million hectares of farmland in Europe.

Guests of Radisson’s Verified Net Zero hotels will experience sustainable hospitality with a focus on eco-friendly practices and a commitment to reducing carbon footprints. The hotels operate entirely on renewable energy, with the Radisson Hotel Manchester City Centre using heat pumps and induction cooking to eliminate gas use. In Oslo, the Radisson RED benefits from the city’s renewable district heating system, which draws energy from waste treatment and data centers.

Radisson has also collaborated with Klimato to develop low-carbon menus at both hotels, reducing the carbon footprint of dishes by up to 40%. Guests can easily identify the carbon impact of their food choices, with menus displaying carbon footprint labels from A (best) to E (worst). The hotels also prioritize waste reduction through food waste management systems, partnerships with Nespresso for coffee pod recycling, and the use of the Too Good to Go platform to offer leftover food to the local community.

Following the renovation of Park Inn by Radisson, the newly rebranded Radisson Hotel Manchester City Centre offers a modern and sustainable experience in the heart of Manchester. The hotel is located near the AO Arena and Manchester Victoria train station, making it an ideal base for guests visiting the area. The hotel boasts 252 guest rooms, a Scandinavian-inspired design, and an array of wellness facilities including a tranquil spa, heated indoor pool, sauna, and gym. The hotel’s event space can accommodate up to 220 attendees, offering a perfect venue for meetings and celebrations. Guests will also enjoy easy access to Manchester’s shopping, cultural, and leisure hotspots.

Inge Huijbrechts, Chief Sustainability & Security Officer at Radisson Hotel Group, commented, “The launch of our first two Verified Net Zero hotels is a proud achievement for Radisson Hotel Group and a significant step towards our goal of Net Zero by 2050. By focusing on reducing emissions from energy, operations, and supply chains, we are paving the way for a new era of sustainable hospitality.”
