Qatar Airways Cargo and Japan Airlines Sign MoU to Expand Partnership and Enhance Cargo Services

(IN SHORT) Qatar Airways Cargo and Japan Airlines have signed an MoU to expand their partnership, enhancing cargo connectivity between Japan and Qatar Airways’ extensive network. The agreement will streamline operations and offer improved services to cargo customers, with freighter services planned for 2025.

(PRESS RELEASE) Doha, Qatar, 2024-Dec-4 — /Travel PR News/ — In a significant move to strengthen their collaboration, Qatar Airways Cargo and Japan Airlines have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), aimed at enhancing their product offerings and operational synergies in the air cargo sector. The agreement builds on the successful launch of daily passenger flights from Tokyo Haneda Airport to Doha’s Hamad International Airport earlier this year.

As part of their long-standing oneworld partnership, Qatar Airways Cargo and Japan Airlines’ cargo division, JALCARGO, have committed to deepening their alliance through this new agreement. The MoU will improve connectivity between their networks and offer enhanced services to their cargo customers across multiple global destinations.

The MoU was officially signed in Doha by Qatar Airways Cargo’s Chief Officer Cargo, Mr. Mark Drusch, and Japan Airlines’ Executive Officer, Senior Vice President, Head of Cargo and Mail, Mr. Yuichiro Kito, in the presence of Qatar Airways’ Group Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer.

Mr. Drusch commented, “This agreement marks a pivotal moment in our partnership with Japan Airlines, and is a clear demonstration of our commitment to improve connectivity and expand product offerings for our customers. By integrating the hubs in Doha and Tokyo, we will provide access to an even broader range of destinations, linking Japan to Qatar Airways’ extensive network in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.”

Mr. Kito added, “This MoU further strengthens our historic collaboration with Qatar Airways Cargo, as JALCARGO now operates its own freighters for the first time in 13 years. Leveraging both JAL’s passenger flight network and Qatar Airways’ expanded reach, we can offer customers more options for shipping their cargo to even more destinations.”

The MoU also outlines plans for streamlined cargo transfer processes between the two carriers, improving efficiency for customers. Additionally, Qatar Airways Cargo is set to begin freighter services between Hamad International Airport and Japan Airlines’ hub at Tokyo Narita Airport in 2025, further boosting the strategic partnership.

Both airlines anticipate that this expanded collaboration will generate substantial economic value, enhancing trade flows between Japan and Qatar Airways Cargo’s global network. Over the past year, the two carriers have transacted over 4,400 tonnes of import and export cargo in Japan, and expect this number to grow significantly in the years to come.
