(PRESS RELEASE) CHRISTCHURCH, New Zealand, 2025-May-26 — /Travel PR News/ — Qantas has revealed an exciting summer uplift for New Zealand, with Christchurch Airport seeing a significant boost in flights across the Tasman. From 15 December to 26 January, Qantas will operate up to seven additional flights per week to Sydney, three additional flights per week to Melbourne, and two additional flights per week to Brisbane. This marks a 47% increase in flights to Sydney, a 26% increase to Melbourne, and a 40% increase to Brisbane, offering more travel options and flexibility for Kiwis and Australian visitors.
This uplift is part of a 20% increase in Qantas’ overall trans-Tasman schedule, with Christchurch Airport being a major beneficiary. The additional services are set to enhance travel choices for both leisure and business travelers, making it easier for Kiwis to experience Australia’s famous cities and for Australians to enjoy the South Island’s renowned adventures and natural beauty.
In addition to offering more flights, the new schedule has been carefully timed to connect seamlessly with Qantas’ international services, making it more convenient for travelers to explore destinations across Asia and Europe. Whether planning a summer getaway to Singapore, a cultural trip to Japan, or a holiday in London or Paris, the world will now be closer for Christchurch residents and visitors alike. The additional flights also provide an excellent opportunity for families and friends to reunite during the busy holiday season.
Justin Watson, Chief Executive of Christchurch Airport, expressed his enthusiasm, saying, “This is fantastic news, and it demonstrates Qantas’ recognition of Christchurch and the South Island market’s strength. These extra flights will help drive tourism, trade, and travel, benefiting local businesses and providing Kiwis with more options.”
Gordon Bevan, Christchurch Airport’s General Manager of Aeronautical Development, added, “Australians are flocking to the South Island, and now it’s easier than ever for them to fly directly here. More flights mean more visitors, more spending, and greater benefits for our economy.”
ChristchurchNZ Chief Executive Ali Adams also welcomed the news, stating, “This is fantastic for Ōtautahi Christchurch, giving local tourism businesses a much-needed summer boost while supporting the city’s exporters and innovators.
