The climate action plan will evolve the organization’s “Believe in Travel” ideology to help make travel a force for good through climate action leadership
(IN SHORT) Preferred Travel Group has announced the development of a Climate Action Plan to cut carbon emissions by half by 2030 and achieve net-zero emissions before 2050. This initiative, in partnership with the Travel Foundation, reflects the company’s commitment to climate leadership in the tourism sector. A public version of the CAP will be released in December 2024, outlining key actions and strategies for sustainability.
(PRESS RELEASE) New York, New York, 2024-Sep-27 — /Travel PR News/ — Preferred Travel Group, the parent company behind global brands such as Preferred Hotels & Resorts, Beyond Green, and Historic Hotels of America, has announced the development of a companywide Climate Action Plan (CAP) as part of its ongoing commitment to sustainability in tourism. This initiative is in partnership with the Travel Foundation and builds on the company’s signing of the Glasgow Declaration on Climate Action in Tourism. The CAP will focus on integrating climate action into the company’s core business model, ensuring that sustainability becomes a central metric for success.
As Preferred Travel Group recognizes the urgent need for climate leadership in the tourism industry, it is taking proactive steps to become a catalyst for positive environmental change. The organization’s CAP aims to cut carbon emissions by half by 2030, with a longer-term goal of achieving net zero emissions before 2050. This process is being driven by companywide engagement, with input from employees across all departments and levels of leadership.
“At Preferred Travel Group, we are committed to using the power of travel to foster meaningful change,” said Lindsey Ueberroth, CEO of Preferred Travel Group. “We are proud to build on our ‘Believe in Travel’ philosophy by leading the charge on climate action and doing our part to ensure a more sustainable future for both the planet and local communities.”
The CAP development is based on a comprehensive review of the company’s carbon emissions, conducted by UK-based consultancy ecollective. This baseline will inform the strategies included in the plan, which will focus on reducing emissions and creating transparent, actionable goals for sustainability. An executive Climate Steering Committee and a dedicated task force of volunteers have been established to spearhead this initiative, and all employees will soon participate in climate action training sessions to build a collective understanding of climate change.
Jeremy Sampson, CEO of the Travel Foundation, praised Preferred Travel Group’s efforts, stating, “Few companies in tourism have made such a deep, integrated commitment to climate action. We’re proud to partner with them as they push forward meaningful change within the industry.”
The final public-facing version of Preferred Travel Group’s CAP is set to be released in December 2024, outlining the company’s specific climate action goals for the coming years.
