MUNICH, 2015-4-13 — /Travel PR News/ — Munich Airport posted strong gains in passenger numbers and airfreight in the first quarter of 2015. The approximately 8.7 million passengers handled in the first three months of the year represent a new first-quarter record for the airport. The number of take-offs and landings, at 87,240, was 0.9 percent lower than in the same period in 2014. The decline was the result of flight cancellations during the four-day strike by Lufthansa pilots in mid-March. Without the effects of that labor dispute, the number of aircraft movements would have matched the previous year’s level and the increase in passenger traffic would have been one percentage point higher. A total of 74,000 tons of airfreight was registered in the first quarter – a year-on-year increase of about 8 percent.
