New consultation by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) on UK’s Transition Altitude change

LONDON, 2015-12-2 — /Travel PR News/ — The latest stage in the process to change the UK’s Transition Altitude has begun, following the launch of a new consultation by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).

Transition Altitude (TA) is the height at which climbing and descending aircraft change from operating their altimeters by reference to an altitude derived from a local pressure setting, expressed in feet (normally above mean sea level), to an area-wide standard pressure setting that allows the flight to be conducted using an internationally agreed set of flight levels.

Following a previous consultation it has been agreed that the TA in the UK will be raised to 18,000ft. The new consultation explores the views of stakeholders on how the change should be implemented. Anyone interested in responding to the consultation should go to the consultation page.

Private pilots and air traffic control officers are particularly encouraged to participate.
