Leipzig, Germany, 2018-Dec-06 — /Travel PR News/ — “By allocating the responsibilities in a new way, we’ll provide clear structures at the Central German airports, streamline the decision processes and therefore become more efficient. We can then focus on our main tasks more consistently in future, make use of the outstanding growth opportunities in the passenger and freight sectors and strengthen the cooperation between the airports at Leipzig/Halle and Dresden,” says Götz Ahmelmann.
The new allocation of responsibilities
Götz Ahmelmann heads Mitteldeutsche Flughafen AG as its CEO and is chairman of the boards at Leipzig/Halle and Dresden Airports.
He is supported by Management Board member, Johannes Jähn, who is COO (Chief Operating Officer) and is not only responsible for operations at the two airports as their managing director, but also for the planned and extensive expansion of Leipzig/Halle Airport. Dieter Köhler is in charge of the finances and personnel departments in the holding and at the airports in his position as CFO (Chief Financial Officer).
CEO Götz Ahmelmann continues, “The Central German airports have huge potential. I’ve got to know many committed employees during my first few weeks here. Together, we’ll make the airports even more attractive for our customers and passengers. In addition to stabilising and expanding the airline services at our two airports, we’ll place great importance on improving the road and rail links. Leipzig/Halle Airport is also a good alternative for passengers from Berlin and Brandenburg because of the notorious capacity bottlenecks at Tegel and Schönefeld Airports in Berlin and at the future BER hub.”
The Supervisory Board thanked Markus Kopp
The Supervisory Board and Markus Kopp reached agreement by mutual consent that he would leave the Management Board in November 2018, i.e. a few months earlier than the normal expiry date on his contract on 30 April 2019, but would continue to act in an advisory role. He has spent almost 13 years on the Management Board of Mitteldeutsche Flughafen AG (MFAG).
The Supervisory Board thanked Mr Kopp for his successful work and many years of management at Leipzig/Halle and Dresden Airports. Thanks to Markus Kopp’s efforts, it was possible to consistently turn the airports into major economic factors for the whole of Central Germany. Erich Staake, CEO of Duisburger Hafen AG and Chairman of the Supervisory Board at Mitteldeutsche Flughafen AG, underlined the following, “Mr Kopp has made a significant contribution to ensuring that the corporate group has been able to position itself in a difficult market environment and achieve extremely dynamic growth in air freight.”
