Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority welcomes Southern Airways Express’ new Essential Air Service providing flights to Dulles International Airport

Airline connects four new cities to Washington, D.C., area using 9-seat Cessna Caravan equipment

Washington DC, USA, 2021-Jun-30 — /Travel PR News/ — The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority on Monday celebrated the launch of Southern Airways Express’ new Essential Air Service providing flights to Dulles International Airport (IAD) from four Mid-Atlantic Region communities.

The Pompano Beach, Florida-based scheduled service commuter airline, which serves more than 30 cities across the country, will operate up to 12 daily flights to Dulles International from Bradford Regional Airport (BFD), DuBois Regional Airport (DUJ) and Lancaster Airport (LNS) in Pennsylvania, as well as Morgantown Municipal Airport (MGW) in West Virginia, under an Essential Air Service agreement with the U.S. Department of Transportation.

“The addition of Southern Airways Express to the Dulles International family will continue to diversify our expanding air service portfolio,” said Carl Schultz, acting vice president of airline business development for the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority. “These convenient new flights will help to better connect residents in smaller Mid-Atlantic communities to desirable destinations both here in the Washington, D.C., area and beyond.”

Now with multiple daily nonstop flights to the leading international airport in the National Capital Region, residents in these Pennsylvania and West Virginia communities will have one-stop access to more than 150 destinations both stateside and across the globe.

The airline will operate nine-seat Cessna Caravan aircraft on all Dulles International routes.

“Southern Airways is delighted to connect our Mid-Atlantic markets – Bradford, Dubois and Lancaster, Pennsylvania; as well as Morgantown, West Virginia – with frequent daily nonstop flights to Washington Dulles International Airport,” said Mark Cestari, chief commercial officer for Southern Airways Express. “This move will not only facilitate excellent service to the entire Washington, D.C., metropolitan area but also smooth, single-change-of-plane connections to more than 100 domestic and 50 international destinations on United Airlines and the many other carriers providing worldwide service from Dulles International.”

Passengers flying from Dulles International on Southern Airways Express will check in at the airline’s counter on the ticketing level in the main terminal and clear TSA security before proceeding to their gate.
