BOSTON, 2016-Dec-29 — /Travel PR News/ —This morning (December 28, 2016), Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport) CEO Thomas P. Glynn alongside officials from JetBlue celebrated the 36 millionth passenger to travel through Logan International Airport this year. This is a new record for the airport, and becomes the seventh straight year of passenger growth. Massport staff coordinated with JetBlue to determine who would be the record-breaking passenger and concluded it would be Virginia Williams, a retired Air Force captain traveling with her family to Richmond, Virginia today.
“I am very proud to announce a new passenger record with 36 million passengers flying through Logan Airport in 2016,” said Massport CEO Thomas P. Glynn. “It takes a lot of hard work and dedication to keep an airport like Logan running smoothly. I want to acknowledge all of the great work done by everyone who works at Logan.”
JetBlue carries more than 35 million customers a year to more than 100 cities in the U.S., Caribbean, and Latin America with an average of 925 daily flights. The airline is the largest airline at Logan in terms of the number of operations and destinations with more than 125 daily flights. In late October they added daily flights to New York LaGuardia airport and on March 30th will add daily flights to Atlanta, GA.
“JetBlue is proud to partner with Massport and Logan Airport on such an important milestone,” said Norbert Strissel, director of airport operations, JetBlue. “We always look for ways to surprise and delight our customers and this was such a great opportunity to thank the Williams family for their continued service to our community here in Boston.”
Williams is a retired captain in the Air Force. She is a resident of Chelmsford, Massachusetts, which is located about 30 miles outside Boston. Williams was traveling with her husband, son and daughter. They were presented with four round trip tickets from JetBlue, among other gifts.
Logan Airport is an economic engine for New England, generating more than $13 billion in economic activity each year. The airport serves 53 international and 75 domestic destinations. In 2015, Logan had a total of 33,449,580 passengers.
