Mashatu for families
Mashatu Game Reserve, Botswana, 2025-Aug-04 — /Travel PR News/ — There are holidays, and then there are places and spaces that shape memories that live on for a lifetime. This year, swap screen time for safari time. Mashatu Game Reserve, one of Botswana’s best-kept secrets, is inviting families to escape into the wild with a limited-time green season offer.
From 1 October 2025 to 31 January 2026, families can take advantage of exclusive safari savings — ideal for half-term breaks, festive getaways, or that long-awaited multi-generational holiday.
Located in Botswana’s remote eastern corner, bordering Zimbabwe and South Africa, Mashatu is home to impressive sandstone formations, wide open plains and grasslands, ancient towering baobabs, and wildlife as far as the eye can see. The green season brings the reserve to life — teeming with baby animals, vibrant and lush vegetation, migratory birds and dramatic skies – providing endless photo-worthy opportunities. A season of life, colour, and wonder — the ideal time to travel as a family.
In addition to twice-daily game drives, Mashatu offers a wide range of unique activities that can be added to your safari for greater excitement and depth – guided safari walks, cycling safari, Night Under the Stars sleepout, horseback safaris and cultural visits to surrounding communities. You can also enjoy night drives and visits to the confluence meeting point of the Limpopo and Shashe Rivers which is spectacular.
Getting to Mashatu is seamless, whether travelling by road or air. Mashatu Connect (travel company) offers daily flights between Lanseria Airport in Johannesburg and Limpopo Valley Airfield in Mashatu (flight duration of 1.5 hours). Travelling by road is approximately a 6-hour drive from Johannesburg, 2-hour drive from Polokwane Airport and 7-hour drive from Gaborone.
Upon arrival at Pont Drift Border Post, guests either cross over the Limpopo River by game vehicle with our rangers or via the cable car (if the river is in floor). Mashatu Connect offers road transfers, or guests can opt to self-drive and leave their vehicles at the border. With flexible accommodation options — from luxury suites to exclusive-use safari homes — and a no-crowds, bespoke experiences, conservation-first ethos; Mashatu gives families the space and pace to connect meaningfully with nature and each other.
