March 2015: airberlin welcomed 2,294,498 passengers on board; 1.6 percent up over the same month last year

BERLIN, 2015-4-9 — /Travel PR News/ — In March 2015, airberlin welcomed 2,294,498 passengers on board. The number of passengers transported thus increased by 1.6 percent over the corresponding month of the previous year. During the month of March, airberlin’s passengers traveled a total of 3.768 billion kilometers (RPK) within airberlin’s global flight route network. This corresponds to an increase of 2.6 percent, and reflects the same result as in 2014, while confirming the continuous positive trend.

The number of available seat kilometers (ASK) for March decreased by 0.2 percent to 4.360 billion kilometers in yearly comparison. However, for the same period, flight capacity utilization (RPK/ASK) over the entire flight route network increased significantly, namely by 2.4 percentage points, to 86.4 percent in yearly comparison.

From January up until and including March 2015, airberlin increased capacity utilization by a further 1.4 percent to a total of 83.2 percent. The number of passengers transported by airberlin since the beginning of 2015 amounted to 5,810,397, i.e. 0.8 percent less than in the comparable period of the previous year, as a result of the reduced number of available seat kilometers.

Stefan Pichler, airberlin’s new CEO, commented on this development, as follows: “The short-term operational control measures that we have implemented, sparked the desired effect in February and March. We need to reinforce this positive trend in the following months”.

From January to March 2015, the revenue passenger kilometers increased to 9.843 billion (previous year: 9.530 billion) and the available seat kilometers increased to 11.827 billion (previous year: 11.649 billion). On the basis of the first quarter of 2015, airberlin is anticipating a positive trend for the entire year.
