London City Airport campaign targets West End political communities to fly from the East

2013-06-20 — /travelprnews.com/ — Already the obvious choice for business travellers in Canary Wharf and the City, London City Airport is now turning its attention to Westminster.

A multi-channel marketing campaign has been launched to target the business and political communities in and around the West End, to position LCY as a convenient alternative to Heathrow for European travel.

Focal points of the campaign include the 25-minute travel time by public transport and the fast transit that the airport offers, with passengers able to reach their departure gate in around 20 minutes.

Radio advertising will be supported by promotional sandwich bags in food outlets at key locations and the distribution of tens of thousands of leaflets at London Underground stations over a three week period.

Matthew Hall, Chief Commercial Officer at London City Airport said:  “London City Airport is the only airport actually in London.  It is quick and convenient and the perfect way to start your journey if you’re going on a business trip or weekend break.  This campaign is designed to encourage people based in the West End to consider trying the airport for their next flight.

“It also complements the work being done by our in-house media sales team to promote the advertising opportunities available within the airport itself.  The profile of our passengers – 60 per cent business travellers and with an average income in excess of £100,000 per year – means we can offer brands a targeted captive audience.”

The campaign has been launched hot on the heels of a brand refresh which has seen the introduction of the strapline ‘Get Closer’ to the LCY logo.

London City Airport (LCY) is the only London airport situated in London itself, just three miles from Canary Wharf, seven miles from the City and 10 miles from London’s West End and linked to all via the Docklands Light Railway. Catering for over 3 million passengers and 70,000 movements annually, in 2012 LCY celebrated its millionth flight, 36 millionth passenger and 25 years of operation.  LCY offers a unique rapid transit proposition – a short check in, door to lounge, and a shorter arrival, tarmac to train.  11 airlines fly out of LCY, serving 47 destinations, eight of which were new for 2012, with six further announced in 2013.  The airport has permission to increase its operation to 120,000 movements per annum, which it intends to do by 2023.  Further information please browse our website.
