Kansas City International Airport reports 9.7 percent passenger increase in January 2016

Kansas City, Mo., 2016-Feb-25 — /Travel PR News/ — The City of Kansas City, Mo., Aviation Department reports that 768,930 passengers arrived and departed through Kansas City International Airport’s gates in January, up 9.7 percent from January 2015. January passenger boardings were up 9.5 percent, with a total of 338,096.

“January’s passenger increase marks not only the largest year-over-year gain at KCI since 2013, but it also continues a streak of 21 consecutive months of growth at KCI,” said Director of Aviation Mark VanLoh. “Travelers continue to support the investments being made by our airline partners with new routes, larger aircraft and lower average fares than all other airports in the four state region.”

Air cargo tonnages, which consist of both freight and mail transported by air, for all carriers at KCI were up 2.2 percent in January with a total of 16.2 million pounds handled. Air freight handled at KCI during January amounted to 15.4 million pounds, which represents a year-over-year increase of 1.0 percent. Air mail for January was up 37 percent from January 2014 with 727,795 pounds handled. The all-cargo carriers reported 5 daily departures for January.

The number of peak-day scheduled aircraft departures for January 2016 was 158. Service was offered to 42 nonstop markets. There was an average of 33,896 arriving and departing seats available in the market each day, a 6.4 percent increase over January 2015. The all-cargo carriers reported 5 daily departures for January.
