Hong Kong, China, 2018-Jul-12 — /Travel PR News/ — This summer, Japanese Chef Koichi Izumi, owner of the renowned pastry shop Asterisque and the culinary school Callebaut Ambassador, brings his singular sweet vision to Afternoon Tea at The Lounge. Chef Izumi holds an impressive list of pastry credentials – in 2008 and 2006 he won the World’s Pastry Championship and in 2005 he scored third place in World Chocolate Masters. Asterisque, located in the Shibuya neighbourhood of Tokyo, attracts avid dessert lovers from near and far, the long queue evidence of the wild popularity of his creations. Dessert lovers in Hong Kong do not need to fly to Tokyo to get a taste of the master’s work as he brings his creations to Four Seasons Hotel Hong Kong for the month of August 2018.
His family undoubtedly influenced Chef Izumi’s refined taste. He is the third generation owner of a traditional wagashi shop – a Japanese confectionary inspired by motifs celebrating the beauty of nature and seasons. His Japanese roots and shrewd eye for precision are reflected in his sublime French pastries that are colourful and visually stunning.
For the month of August, The Lounge will include four of Chef Izumi’s desserts in the Afternoon Tea set, to compliment decadent scones and savoury canapés. Fraicheur is Chef Izumi’s play on the traditional French dessert tarte citron, enlivening taste buds with a refreshing yuzu base. Ripples is a bon bon chocolate with a praline centre, while Rouge is a romantic cake with pink accents featuring strawberries, raspberries and red currant. Matcha, so emblematic of Japanese rituals, cannot go missing from Chef Izumi’s desserts. His matcha tiramisu is made à la minute with mascarpone adding lightness to this decadent creation.
From August 1 to 4, Chef Izumi will be in residence at The Lounge to meet and greet with Four Seasons guests. Limited quantities of his signature francoise and lychee guimauve pound cake will also be available for take-away over those four days only, priced at HKD 250 each. Izumi’s signature desserts will continue to grace the tiered tea set for the whole of August. Afternoon Tea at Four Seasons is served from 3:00 to 5:30 pm daily, priced at HKD 305 for one person and HKD 585 for two people, subject to 10 percent service charge.
