Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) unveils advanced Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting fleet to strengthen emergency response and passenger safety
(NEWS) LAS VEGAS, 2025-Aug-27 — /Travel PR News/ — Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) has strengthened its emergency response capabilities with the arrival of two new state-of-the-art Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) trucks. The multimillion-dollar investment, made possible through $3 million in federal grant funding provided by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and the Airport Infrastructure Grant program, marks a major advancement in aviation safety at one of the nation’s busiest airports.
The new ARFF vehicles feature 4,500-gallon water tanks — a 1,500-gallon increase compared to previous models — along with advanced thermal imaging systems that enable firefighters to identify fires and locate individuals in low-visibility conditions. Each truck is also equipped with a 65-foot high-reach extendable turret, providing precision and flexibility when responding to emergencies involving large aircraft.
In addition to technological upgrades, the trucks underscore LAS’s commitment to environmental responsibility by using fluorine-free foam (F3), in compliance with FAA guidelines, to eliminate risks associated with PFAS contamination. The introduction of the new fleet replaces aging equipment, ensuring faster and more effective responses during critical incidents on the airfield.
The unveiling ceremony took place at Clark County Fire Station 13 on the airport grounds and included remarks from aviation and government leaders. Rosemary Vassiliadis, Clark County Director of Aviation, emphasized that the upgraded fleet raises the bar for airfield safety, enabling first responders to act more efficiently in critical moments. U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen, who played a key role in securing the funding, highlighted the importance of the investment for Nevada’s tourism-driven economy, noting that the upgrades ensure travelers receive the safe and secure experience they expect when arriving in Las Vegas.
With the addition of these cutting-edge firefighting trucks, Harry Reid International Airport has reinforced its role as a leader in aviation safety, prioritizing both passenger security and operational preparedness as the gateway to Nevada’s global tourism industry.
