George Best Belfast City Airport supports Knocknagoney Primary School with new STEM equipment
BELFAST, Northern Ireland, 2019-Jan-15 — /Travel PR News/ — Knocknagoney Primary School in east Belfast has invested in a range of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) based learning equipment, thanks to funding from George Best Belfast City Airport’s Community Fund.
Among the many items purchased were a green-house, microscopes and a fully functional water wall, all in effort to promote STEM as a viable career for both boys and girls.
Ann Burton, Principal of Knocknagoney Primary School said:
“We want to enrich the learning experience of our pupils by providing exciting experiences which we hope will challenge them and nurture interest in STEM subjects from as early as Key Stage One.”
“We are extremely grateful to Belfast City Airport in helping to finance the purchase of the green-house and other resources which I’m certain will stir an interest and inspire our pupils to consider a career in STEM subjects.”
Belfast City Airport already shares a close relationship with Knocknagoney Primary School, with airport staff regularly spending time with classes as part of the ‘Time to Read’ initiative.
Paula Bittles, Executive Assistant at Belfast City Airport, visited the school to witness pupils using the new STEM resources. She said:
“It was wonderful to visit the children and see the enjoyment they took from the new STEM equipment.
“Working closely with the local schools is extremely important to the airport and forms a key aspect of our corporate responsibility programme.
“To date our Community Fund has invested over £375,000 in 150 groups across Northern Ireland, emphasising the significance we place in engaging with and supporting our community.”
