Four Seasons Resort Marrakech Invites Guests to Meet with Master Benchaâbane in His Private Gardens

An exclusive tour with perfumer and gardener to Yves Saint Laurent.

2013-02-08 — /travelprnews.com/ — Four Seasons Resort Marrakech offers “Scents & Gardens,” an exclusive excursion with Master Benchaâbane, artisan-designer for Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé of the Jardin Majorelle, the mythical garden created in 1931 by the painter Jacques Majorelle.

Benchaâbane is one of the most outstanding personalities of modern Marrakech, with his stature as a man of the earth and his storied background, though he modestly describes himself as a “simple gardener.” Biologist by training, he became a photographer before meeting with Pierre Bergé and Yves Saint Laurent and restoring the Majorelle Gardens, which he cared for until the death of the designer.

Today, he is best known for his creations of perfume. AsFour Seasons guests will learn, in the northeast of the city, the project is broader: he has created in a huge property with three gardens (water, fruit and “dry” with only cactus) and an eco-museum where he hosts art exhibitions and cultural events; he also organizes educational tutoring for neighbourhood children. Benchaâbane represents Morocco on the move: erudite, curious, and concerned with the education of future generations.

Benchaâbane invites guests of Four Seasons Resort Marrakech to start the day with a visit to the Museum of Art of Living, which houses his latest creation of the hanging gardens in the heart of the Medina. Then a few kilometres from Marrakech, he welcomes guests into his private gardens at the Musée d’Art Contemporain de la Palmeraie, a perfume creation workshop. As an exhibition place for contemporary Moroccan artists, it is also a beautiful Andalusian garden planted with olive, tangerine and rose to perfume the air. It is also a repository of cacti, including some plants used in the Majorelle gardens.

Through the visit of his gardens, Master Benchaâbane reveals his botanical knowledge and his unique background. In his perfumery showroom, he shares his expertise in the creation of many perfumes and presents examples such as Soir de Marrakech, Majorelle, Mogador, Sultane des Cœurs and Fès, Jardins d’épices.

At the end of the workshop, happy participants enjoy a delicious mint tea and other local refreshments, together with Master Benchaâbane in his gardens bathed in sunlight and scents.
