Brussels Airport resumes normal operations in the departures hall from 2 June

BRUSSELS, BELGIUM, 2016-May-31 — /Travel PR News/ — As of Thursday 2 June all passengers will again be able to check in at the departures hall. Thus Brussels Airport resumes normal operations in the departures hall a mere two and a half months after the attacks. The 21 airlines that still have their check-in desks in the temporary constructions, will be returning to the terminal. Since a few days a new flight schedule applies which allows for 28 departing flights an hour. The airport will gradually increase this number to allow for 44 departing flights per hour by the start of the summer rush.

As of 2 June all airlines at Brussels Airport will be back in the departures hall to check in their passengers. Brussels Airport was able to open two additional rows of check-in desks. The temporary construction which currently still accommodates 21 airlines will then be taken out of service.

A few days ago a new flight schedule was adopted which allowed for the maximum number of departing flights per hour to be increased from 22 to 28 flights. In the coming weeks Brussels Airport will gradually increase its capacity from 28 to 44 flights so as to meet the summer rush. The increase of the number of flights is possible due to the operational optimisation of the terminal infrastructure and of the operational processes. Due to these optimisations, the majority of the passengers can get from the entrance to the airport to their gate in under 60 minutes, which is just as fast as before the attacks.

At the end of last week, the Diamond building which accommodates the elevators and escalators, partly reopened allowing passengers to directly proceed to the bus station from the departures or arrivals hall. Transfer passengers who pass through the terminal, can use the escalators between the arrivals and departures level. Passengers and staff who take the bus at Brussels Airport, need less time to get to their bus stop from the arrivals hall.

The access from the train station in the Diamond building will be reopened in the course of June. Work continues in the terminal to reopen other areas to the passengers.
