Automated boarding pass scanners introduced in Copenhagen Airport

2013-03-07 — /travelprnews.com/ — It will be easier and faster to get to the security screening area when Copenhagen Airport introduces automated boarding pass scanners. The goal is to increase passenger satisfaction as well as capacity.

In future, passengers at Copenhagen Airport will go trough a so-called e-gate before entering the security screening area; manual boarding pass checks will be replaced by an automated scanning of boarding passes. The idea is to reduce waiting time and costs and to further increase capacity and passenger satisfaction.

“Our passenger interviews show that ‘self-service travellers are satisfied travellers’, i.e. that passengers would like more self-service options. Today, 75% of passengers check in online, at airport kiosks or by mobile phone. For this reason, we are convinced that passengers will welcome the new e-gates, which will make it even easier for them to make their way through the airport,” said Johnnie Müller, head of security at Copenhagen Airport.

Copenhagen Airport among the first
Copenhagen Airport is among the first European airports to introduce e-gates. Many many travellers will,however, recognise the new e-gates from metro and train stations in a number of cities abroad.

At an e-gate, passengers self-scan their boarding passes, and only a valid travel document will open the e-gate, allowing access to the security screening area. Passengers will continue to use the same types of boarding passes as they have used until now: boarding passes in hardcopy and on mobile phones will be accepted at the new e-gates.

Faster and easier
“The new e-gates will increase our capacity at security, as we will go from the four desks we have now to six e-gates, which will make it even faster and easier to get through the necessary security check,” said Müller.

However, Copenhagen Airport will keep two manned desks to help passengers travelling with young children and passengers with reduced mobility. There will also be a dedicated access point for passengers using “CPH Express”, Copenhagen Airport’s two express lanes through security.

The new e-gates will open on Wednesday, 6 March, and CPH will ensure that extra assistance is available during the first few months to help travellers unsure about how to use the new e-gates.
