2012-11-26 — /travelprnews.com/ — The Austrian Airlines Group is to join the ‘Ärzte an Bord’ (‘Doctors on Board’) programme run by the Lufthansa Group. Doctors can register immediately, free of charge. Registration is rewarded with a credit of 5,000 premium miles and a pocket book of aviation medicine. In this way, the airlines want to improve their provision of emergency care in the air. The 800 doctors belonging to the ‘Doc on Board’ programme of Austrian Airlines, which expires at the end of 2012, will be given the chance to transfer their membership from the old programme to the new.

Extension of the programme means a fundamental benefit for Austrian Airlines’ passengers: the pool of flying doctors is being expanded throughout the Lufthansa Group.

The programme works as follows: the details of registered doctors are stored in a Miles & More database, together with their specialist training. This allows flight attendants to go to the doctor in the event of an emergency and request their help. Doctors also have liability insurance against claims for compensation.

Austrian Airlines
Austrian Airlines is Austria’s largest carrier and operates a global route network of round 130 destinations. That route network is particularly dense in Central and Eastern Europe with 41 destinations. Thanks to its favourable geographical location at the heart of Europe, the company’s hub at Vienna International Airport is the ideal gateway between East and West. Austrian Airlines is part of the Lufthansa Group, Europe’s largest airline group, and a member of the Star Alliance, the first global alliance of international airlines. The flight operations of the Austrian Airlines Group has been bundled at its 100% subsidiary Tyrolean Airways since 1st July, 2012.
