Antalya Airport Completes Major Terminal Expansion Ahead of Record Passenger Growth and 2027 Concession Launch
(IN SHORT) Antalya Airport has completed the first phase of its major expansion, adding over 160,000 square meters of terminal space to accommodate record passenger growth. Operated by a joint venture between Fraport AG and TAV Airports Holding, the project enhances both international and domestic facilities. A new joint venture, Best Food for All (BFA), introduces 29 restaurants offering global and Turkish cuisine. Additional upgrades include taxiways, aprons, and a parking area, with a new air traffic control tower to follow by 2026. The expansion supports Antalya’s development as a year-round destination and aligns with a 25-year concession that begins in 2027 under the Fraport-TAV partnership.
(PRESS RELEASE) FRANKFURT, 2025-Apr-14 — /Travel PR News/ — Antalya Airport (AYT), one of the Mediterranean’s busiest travel hubs, has marked a major milestone with the successful completion of the first phase of its large-scale expansion project. Spearheaded by the joint project company formed by Fraport AG and TAV Airports Holding, the upgrade adds over 160,000 square meters of terminal space—132,000 square meters to the international Terminal 2 and another 38,000 square meters to the domestic terminal.
The project, completed in less than three years, comes at a critical time as Antalya Airport experiences record-breaking growth. In 2024, the airport served over 38 million passengers, a 6.5% increase compared to the previous year.
“The opening of the new terminal areas marks a significant step forward in reinforcing Antalya’s status as the top holiday airport in the Mediterranean,” said Dr. Stefan Schulte, CEO of Fraport AG. “This expansion—the third-largest construction project in our Group’s history—demonstrates our capability to execute complex infrastructure developments efficiently and effectively.”
TAV Airports CEO Serkan Kaptan echoed the significance of the milestone: “Antalya Airport is Türkiye’s second-busiest airport for international traffic, and this expansion will not only improve the passenger experience but also boost regional growth. Our partnership with Fraport and continued stakeholder collaboration will unlock the airport’s full potential.”
The expansion also brings an elevated passenger experience with the introduction of new culinary offerings. Fraport has launched a joint venture called Best Food for All (BFA), taking an active role in operating 29 diverse restaurants at Antalya Airport for the first time. The venues offer a range of cuisines—from quick bites and global brands to authentic Turkish dishes—showcasing the country’s signature hospitality.
Denitza Weismantel, who represents Fraport on BFA’s supervisory board, stated: “We’re offering travelers an impressive mix of dining options, where they can experience the warmth of Turkish hospitality alongside international favorites.”
The first phase also included new taxiways, apron enhancements, and a parking facility. Looking ahead, a new air traffic control tower is slated for completion and handover by the end of 2026. In total, approximately €850 million has been invested in the project so far.
This expansion forms part of a broader vision to transform Antalya into a thriving year-round tourism destination. Beyond its renowned summer appeal and 300 days of sunshine, the region also attracts visitors with rich cultural and historical assets like the Roman theater at Aspendos. Antalya Airport currently connects to nearly 250 destinations through over 100 airlines.
Fraport has been active in Antalya since 1999. In 2021, it secured a renewed concession with TAV Airports Holding, granting operational control of the terminal and landside infrastructure through to 2051. The new 25-year concession period officially begins on January 1, 2027.
