American Airlines Resumes Florida Operations After Hurricane Milton, Extends Travel Flexibility for Impacted Customers

• Full operations resumed Thursday, Oct. 10, at American’s Miami International Airport (MIA) hub.
• Operations set to resume Friday, Oct. 11, at Orlando International Airport (MCO) and Palm Beach International Airport (PBI).

(IN SHORT) American Airlines has resumed full operations at Miami International Airport and several other Florida locations following the disruption caused by Hurricane Milton. Operations are set to restart at additional airports on Friday, October 11, while assessments are ongoing at others. American has extended its travel alert and capped fares for affected routes, offering flexibility for impacted customers and supporting relief efforts through partnerships with non-profit organizations.

(PRESS RELEASE) FORT WORTH, Texas, 2024-Oct-11 — /Travel PR News/ — American Airlines is resuming operations at select Florida airports as they reopen following the impact of Hurricane Milton. Full operations at Miami International Airport (MIA) have already resumed as of Thursday, October 10, with flights also restarting at Key West International Airport (EYW) and Gainesville Regional Airport (GNV). Operations at Orlando International Airport (MCO), Palm Beach International Airport (PBI), Melbourne Orlando International Airport (MLB), Daytona Beach International Airport (DAB), as well as Marsh Harbour Airport (MHH) and Grand Bahama International Airport (FPO) in The Bahamas, are set to resume on Friday, October 11.

The airline is currently assessing conditions at Tampa International Airport (TPA), Sarasota Bradenton International Airport (SRQ), and Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW) and will resume operations at these locations when it is deemed safe to do so. American continues to prioritize the safety and well-being of both its customers and team members while coordinating with local, state, and federal authorities to monitor recovery efforts.

In light of the disruptions caused by Hurricane Milton, American Airlines has extended its travel alert through October 12. The travel alert now includes five airports in the Bahamas, in addition to 12 airports across Florida. To support impacted customers, fares have been capped for all direct flights departing from areas covered by the travel alert. Additionally, American is working with its non-profit partners to assist with relief efforts, and through October 18, AAdvantage® members can earn 10 miles for every dollar donated to the American Red Cross with a minimum contribution of $25.

Earlier in the week, American added more than 4,000 additional seats to help customers evacuate from affected areas. Extra flights were operated from Tampa International Airport and Sarasota Bradenton International Airport on October 7 and 8, offering much-needed transportation to customers seeking to leave the region. These extra flights provided an opportunity for passengers to evacuate to destinations such as Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT), Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW), and Miami International Airport (MIA).<

American remains dedicated to providing flexible travel options to customers affected by the storm. Those whose plans have been disrupted by Hurricane Milton are encouraged to rebook their flights without change fees. Customers can manage their travel on aa.com, through the American Airlines mobile app, or by contacting Reservations at 800-433-7300. Additionally, customers with significantly delayed or canceled flights may cancel their itinerary and request a refund.
