WASHINGTON, D.C., 2018-Aug-07 — /Travel PR News/ — The Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l (ALPA) recognized Delta Air Lines Capt. Robert “Rip” Torn with a Presidential Citation for his tireless commitment to advancing the Association’s safety work. The award was presented during ALPA’s 64th Air Safety Forum in Washington, D.C.
“ALPA volunteers like Capt. Torn are the foundation of our union and a major component in ensuring that ALPA remains the largest, most effective nongovernmental aviation safety organization in the world,” said Capt. Tim Canoll, ALPA president. “His collaborative efforts with the National Air Traffic Controllers Association have resulted in numerous advancements in the way that pilots interact with our air traffic control colleagues. We are grateful for all of Capt. Torn’s efforts and proud to recognize his numerous accomplishments that continue to advance the piloting profession.”
For over two decades, Capt. Torn has helped enhance aviation safety through his work on ALPA’s Air Traffic Services group. His tenure as chairman of that group and the IFALPA Air Traffic Services Committee, has established him as an expert on air traffic control issues among the international aviation community.
“We would like to add our appreciation for Captain Torn’s tireless efforts not only on behalf of Delta pilots, but pilots worldwide,” said Capt Bill Bartels, chairman of the Delta unit of ALPA. “His work nationally and internationally will have a long-term positive effect on the safety of air travel, earning him this well-deserved recognition.”
