2012-09-13 — /travelprnews.com/ — Traffic Figures: 2,395,482 passengers were handled at Zurich Airport during August 2012, a gain of 3.2% versus August 2011. The year to date passenger growth stands at +2.8%.
O&D or local passengers (originating or departing from Zurich) increased by 2.5% to 1,559,464 compared to previous August (YTD +2.2%). Transfer passengers increased by 4.3% to 826,954 in August (YTD +4.0%). The transfer rate which was at 34.2% last August is currently at 34.6% (YTD 34.3%).
The current low cost carrier market share is at 11.1% (YTD 10.7%), showing a passenger decrease of
4.4% (YTD -1.8%) versus previous year.
Air traffic movements (ATM’s) decreased by 2.3% to 24,332 in August versus previous year (YTD -2.8%). The decrease divides into a decrease of 1.1% for airlines (YTD -1.7%) and a decrease of 10.0% for general aviation (YTD -9.2%).
The average passenger per movement figure (airline passengers only) currently is at 113.5 (108.7 previous year) or 106.4 YTD (101.8 previous year). The average seat load factor saw an increase of 1.4 percentage points to 78.2% (YTD 74.3%).
Commercial Activities
Total turnover (net sales to consumers) during August was CHF 43.5m (+15.6% versus previous year). Turnover per departing passenger in August was CHF 36.3, which is 12.0 percent higher than last year. Year to date August, total turnover saw an increase of 7.8% to CHF 338.6m and turnover per departing passenger increased by 4.8 percent to CHF 40.6.
