2012-11-08 — /travelprnews.com/ — Keepers present the final panda ice cake of the year
WHAT: Po the panda cub turned 2 on Saturday, November 3, with a festive finale for giant panda birthday season at Zoo Atlanta. Not to be outdone by the elaborate birthday extravaganzas presented to other members of his family earlier this fall, Po’s human caregivers started weeks in advance on planning an ice cake fit for a celebrity toddler.
Po still lives with his mother, Lun Lun, although he is light-years removed from the furless, featherweight newborn who entered the world with a lusty squeal in the wee hours of November 3, 2010. He now weighs over 100 pounds and dines primarily on bamboo.
Bamboo was one of the treats included in Po’s birthday surprises, along with enriching scents and snacks for the youngster to enjoy – or destroy! Visit the birthday boy and his mom today in the Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation Giant Panda Conservation Center. Looking for an unforgettable gift? Give the panda fans in your life a behind-the-scenes Giant Panda Wild Encounter this holiday season.

ABOUT: About Zoo Atlanta
An accredited member of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA), Zoo Atlanta inspires value and preservation of wildlife through a unique mix of education and outdoor family fun. From well-known native wildlife to critically endangered species on the brink of extinction, the Zoo offers memorable close encounters with more than 1,500 animals from around the world. A slate of new up-close-and-personal experiences opened in spring 2012: giraffe feeding, permitting guests to hand-feed Earth’s tallest living land mammals, and Wild Encounters, three new behind-the-scenes adventures with African elephants, giant pandas and Komodo dragon. Other highlights include the nation’s largest collection of western lowland gorillas, the nation’s largest zoological collection of orangutans and a global center of excellence for the care and study of vanishing reptiles and amphibians. The Zoo is open daily with the exceptions of Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. Keeper talks, interactive wildlife shows, education programs and special events run year-round.
