Woodland Park Zoo to honor Seattle native Debbie Armstrong for her 1984 Olympic gold medal on July 24, 2014

WHAT: Thirty years ago, Seattle native Debbie Armstrong brought a gold medal home for her win in the giant slalom at the 1984 Winter Olympics. On July 24, former Seattle Mayor Charles Royer will join Woodland Park Zoo in
honoring Armstrong at a ceremony by dedicating a bench, a commemorative
plaque and Gold Medal Rose bushes in Woodland Park Zoo’s Rose Garden.

The community is invited to attend the ceremony. Entertainment will be
provided by Armstrong’s childhood friend, prominent Seattle harpist Bronn
Journey.

Armstrong, a graduate of Garfield High School, represented the first
American woman since 1952 to win the gold in the giant slalom.

WHEN: Thursday, July 24, 2014, 1:00 p.m.

WHERE: Woodland Park Zoo’s Rose Garden, which is located at the zoo’s South Entrance at N. 50th St. & Fremont Ave. N.
