Wizz Air to fly four times a week on the Budapest – Istanbul route, and daily from March 2014

2013-08-05— /travelprnews.com/ — The first scheduled flight of Wizz Air to Istanbul took off. The airline will fly between Budapest and Istanbul four times a week, on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, and Wizz Air is planning to fly daily from March 2014 onwards. The new flight is the latest new route to be announced by the fast growing Wizz Air.

The demand was exceptionally large for new flights to Istanbul, which is underpinned by the load factor of the first flight. 164 passengers departed to Turkey on board the Airbus A320 with 180 seats. Wizz Air will operate from Budapest to Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen airport on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays before increasing to a daily service from next summer. On board of the first flight, there was Hungarian strongman Zsolt ‘Popeye’ Sinka travelling, who has received the honorary diploma for the successful acquisition of the world record that he reached on 20th June with pulling a Wizz Air Airbus A320 with his teeth.

With the exception of Sunday, the new flight takes off from Budapest at 9:45 a.m. and lands in Istanbul at 12:40 local time. On its way back, it departs at 13:10 and arrives in Budapest 14:10 local time. On Sundays only, it operates around 90 minutes later. This schedule is convenient for both business travelers and tourists. The vibrant development of the Turkish economy makes Istanbul a natural destination for business travelers, whilst masses of tourists from all over the world visit the sights of the historic town on the Bosporus.

“It’s very good news both for us and for passengers that this new flight was added to the Budapest-Istanbul route by Wizz Air”, said Kam Jandu, Director Aviation of Budapest Airport. He added, “We are certain that the flight will be a success, offering passengers another airport choice to fly to in Istanbul complementing the existing services of Turkish Airlines who also increased their capacity in the last two years.”
