Wizz Air to add fifth Airbus A320 aircraft to its Cluj-Napoca (Romania) fleet

FOUR NEW ROUTES AND MORE FREQUENCIES ON EXISTING SERVICES IN 2016

BUDAPEST, HUNGARY, 2015-10-16 — /Travel PR News/ — Wizz Air, the largest low-cost airline in Central and Eastern Europe, today announced it will add a fifth Airbus A320 aircraft to its Cluj-Napoca fleet from 22nd July 2016. The new aircraft will operate four new routes from Cluj-Napoca to Alicante, Berlin Schoenefeld, Billund and Doncaster Sheffield, and increase the frequencies on some of WIZZ’s most popular routes from one of Romania’s largest cities, including the London Luton service that will be operated with three daily flights.

Wizz Air has seen a 20 percent increase in traffic on Romanian routes in the first nine months of 2015 compared with the first nine months of 2014, while at Cluj-Napoca the traffic increased by 42 percent during the same period. Since beginning operations nine years ago, WIZZ has carried 21 million passengers from Romanian airports.

Berlin, the capital of Germany and a world city of culture, politics, media and science, is a new destination in Wizz Air’s network of 113 airports. With the four newest routes and the recently announced flights to Munich Memmingen, Wizz Air now offers a total of 27 routes from Cluj-Napoca. Seats on the new routes are already on sale and can be booked on wizzair.com.

Speaking at a press conference in Cluj-Napoca today, John Stephenson, Executive Vice President of Wizz Air said: I’m delighted that our Romanian business keeps growing. By adding a fifth aircraft to our Cluj-Napoca base, we are responding to demand and continue to invest in offering more travel opportunities at low fares. Berlin, our newest addition to the WIZZ network, is currently only accessible from Cluj-Napoca and together with the other three new routes, extends the Cluj-Napoca offering to 27 destinations in 11 countries. The growth of the WIZZ base in Cluj-Napoca is also an opportunity for the creation of more aviation jobs in the region.”

David Ciceo, CEO of Cluj International Airport said: “Frequency increases and new destinations announced by Wizz Air by adding the fifth aircraft to its base at Cluj International Airport are always welcomed. Above all, these services will bring new travel opportunities, offering greater choice for our passengers. We are delighted to hear the good news and convinced in the success of the new destinations”
