Wizz Air selects V2500 engine to power 10 firm Airbus A321ceo aircrafts

Budapest, Hungary, 2017-Jun-24 — /Travel PR News/ — Wizz Air, the largest low-cost airline in Central and Eastern Europe, has selected the V2500 engine to power 10 firm Airbus A321ceo aircraft today (21/06/2017) at the Paris Air Show. WIZZ already has 83 V2500 powered A320 family aircraft in service, with 19 more to be delivered. Deliveries are scheduled to commence from 2018 onwards. WIZZ also has an agreement for 110 new technology A321neo aircraft which will be powered by PW1100G-JM engines.

The V2500 engine is offered through IAE International Aero Engines AG, a multinational aero engine consortium whose shareholders comprise Pratt & Whitney, a division of United Technologies Corporation  (NYSE: UTX); Pratt & Whitney Aero Engines International GmbH; Japanese Aero Engines Corporation; and MTU Aero Engines GmbH.

The sales agreement for the V2500 engine, which provides 22,000 to 33,000 pounds of thrust, includes a Fleet Hour Agreement. There are 6,500 in service V2500 engines around the globe.

“We are very happy with the operational performance of the V2500 engine and the cost advantages it delivers” said József Váradi, CEO, Wizz Air. “The relationship with IAE & P&W is significant for our growing business, as the efficient metrics of the V2500 engine will translate directly into reduced operating costs. While we already have a very low cost base, our focus is to continue to strive to offer the lowest fares for our customers while driving strong returns for our business. WIZZ’s strategy is to strengthen its position as the CEE market leader and fastest-growing European low cost carrier.  Following on from our order two years ago for 110 ultra-efficient Airbus A321neo, these 10 additional aircraft will see 140 new aircraft join Wizz Air’s fleet by 2024 and Wizz become an airline over twice as big as today.”

“WIZZ is a key strategic customer to IAE and Pratt & Whitney,” said Rick Deurloo, senior vice president, Pratt & Whitney Sales and Customer Support.  “We greatly appreciate the faith WIZZ has in us.”

Wizz Air is the largest low-cost airline in Central and Eastern Europe, currently operating a fleet of 83 Airbus A320 and A321 aircraft which is one of the youngest fleets of any major European airline with an aircraft average age of 4.4 years.

Pratt & Whitney is a world leader in the design, manufacture and service of aircraft engines and auxiliary power units.
