Budapest, Hungary, 2016-Oct-11 — /Travel PR News/ — Wizz Air, the largest low-cost airline in Central and Eastern Europe and Romania’s largest airline, today (05/10/2016) celebrates a major milestone of 2 million passengers to and from Targu Mures as well as 10 years of presence at the Transylvania International Airport.
The first WIZZ flight took off from Targu Mures to London Luton in 2006 and after five years of successful operations, Wizz Air based one of its new Airbus A320 at Targu Mures Transylvania Airport. Establishing base operations, WIZZ created 36 direct jobs and added several new routes to its low-fare Targu Mures network, which now consists of nine routes to six countries. In 2015, Wizz Air carried nearly 350,000 passengers on its Targu Mures routes supporting over 250 local jobs*.
Since its very first Romanian flight, Wizz Air has continuously grown its low-fare network in the country and currently offers 122 routes to 53 destinations from 10 Romanian airports. WIZZ’s Romanian operations not only provide affordable access at WIZZ’s lowest fares between Romania and the rest of Europe, but also stimulate the local job market in aviation and tourism sectors. Over 600 Wizz Air colleagues currently work in Romania, looking forward to welcoming passengers on board WIZZ’s Romanian flights, which this year will support more than 3,300* jobs in associated industries throughout the country.
Demonstrating WIZZ’s dedication to its Romanian customers the airline is continuously investing in its Romanian operations and will grow its fleet in the country to 20 aircraft by the end of 2016, including four of the ultra-efficient brand new 230-seat Airbus A321. Throughout 2016 WIZZ has already announced and will start 30 new routes connecting Romania with the rest of Europe, including WIZZ’s first internal route connecting Bucharest with Cluj-Napoca which starts a new era in domestic Romanian air travel. Over the past 12 months ending 30 September 2016 Wizz Air carried more than 5,5 million passengers to and from Romania.
