Budapest, Hungary, 2016-Feb-29 — /Travel PR News/ — Wizz Air, the largest low-cost airline in Central and Eastern Europe,today announced new service from Budapest to Sofia, beginning 1 November. The service between the Hungarian and Bulgarian capitals will run three days a week and tickets are on sale now at wizzair.com starting at 39.99 Lev/5,990 Forints (€19.99).
With the new routes, Wizz Air now offers low fare flights from Budapest to 48 destinations in 23 countries and flights from Sofia to 29 destinations in 15 countries. Wizz Air is also expanding its base fleet in both cities to continue to serve growing passenger numbers. Sofia will get its sixth base aircraft in March, while the fleet in Budapest will grow to 10 aircraft by this summer.
Networkwide, Wizz Air saw a 22 percent increase in the number of passengers carried in 2015, up to 19.2 million from 15.8 million in 2014. The number of passengers in Bulgaria topped 1.36 million in 2015 while 2.9 million passengers passed through Hungary’s two base airports in Budapest and Debrecen.
Other new routes announced recently from Sofia include Cologne, Naples, Bari, Geneva, Munich Memmingen, Alicante, Hamburg/Lubeck, Bristol, Oslo, and Birmingham. From Budapest, recently announced new routes include Reykjavik, Glasgow, Liverpool, Ibiza, Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden, Baku and Nice. Wizz Air also announced three special flight packages from Budapest to Bordeaux, Lyon and Marseille in June for fans of the Hungarian national football team playing in the European championship tournament.
Wizz Air was recently named Value Airline of the Year by Air Transport Worldmagazine for its success in 2015.
