(NEWS) BUDAPEST, 2026-Jan-12 — /Travel PR News/ — Wizz Air is accelerating its expansion across Southern and Eastern Europe with a series of new route announcements that strengthen its presence in Italy and Bulgaria while deepening connectivity with key leisure and cultural destinations across the Mediterranean and beyond. The latest developments underline the airline’s continued focus on network growth, operational performance and fleet modernisation as demand for short-haul travel remains strong.
In Italy, Wizz Air is expanding from two major gateways. From Naples Capodichino Airport, the airline will launch a new direct service to Palma de Mallorca on 12 May 2026, operating three times weekly. The route adds a leisure-focused connection between Southern Italy and one of Spain’s most popular island destinations, reinforcing Naples’ role as a growing hub within Wizz Air’s Italian network. Company data highlights that nearly 4,000 Wizz Air flights operated from Naples in 2025, with rising punctuality and completion rates supporting the airline’s expansion strategy.
Further north, Wizz Air is also strengthening its footprint at Milan Malpensa Airport with the launch of a new route to Bilbao, starting 11 May 2026. Operating four times a week, the service adds another Spanish destination to Malpensa’s growing Wizz Air portfolio and builds on strong year-on-year traffic growth at the airport. The airline carried close to 4.2 million passengers from Malpensa in 2025, supported by improved punctuality and high operational reliability.
At the same time, Wizz Air is consolidating its leadership position in Bulgaria with three new routes for the 2026 summer season. New direct services will link Vasil Levski Sofia Airport with Santander and Corfu, alongside a new connection between Varna Airport and Katowice. As outlined in official company communications, these additions are designed to stimulate both inbound and outbound tourism while improving Bulgaria’s links with Southern, Western and Central Europe.
Across all newly announced routes, flights will be operated using Wizz Air’s Airbus A321neo aircraft, reflecting the carrier’s ongoing investment in fuel-efficient technology that delivers lower emissions, reduced noise and improved passenger comfort. Nearly two-thirds of the airline’s fleet now consists of A321neo aircraft, supporting its sustainability and efficiency targets.
The latest route launches form part of a broader growth picture for Wizz Air in both Italy and Bulgaria. In Italy alone, the airline now operates more than 260 routes to over 30 countries and carried more than 21 million passengers in 2025. In Bulgaria, Wizz Air continues to expand capacity, offering a significant increase in available seats and maintaining completion rates above 99 percent. Collectively, the announcements signal the airline’s intention to strengthen regional connectivity while responding to sustained demand for affordable leisure and city-break travel across Europe.
