Wizz Air announces new service between Leipzig/Halle Airport and Kiev Zhuliany Airport from 5 July

Schkeuditz, Germany, 2019-Mar-28 — /Travel PR News/ — Wizz Air, the leading low-cost airline in Central and Eastern Europe, will be running flights between Leipzig/Halle Airport and Kiev Zhuliany Airport from 5 July. This means that there will be non-stop flights between the two twin cities of Leipzig and Kiev for the first time since German reunification. Wizz Air will be departing for the Ukranian capital on Mondays and Fridays at 2:45 p.m. Flights can already be booked at wizzair.com, with prices starting at €19.99

A 180-seater Airbus A320 will be used on this route. Passengers travelling from central Germany can reach Kiev non-stop in just over two hours. Among the many tourist attractions in Ukraine’s largest city are the Golden Gate, Maidan Square and numerous churches and magnificent buildings.

Götz Ahmelmann, chairman of the boards of Mitteldeutsche Flughafen AG and Leipzig/Halle and Dresden Airports: “Wizz Air’s commitment to Leipzig/Halle Airport is a great strategic success for our company. The airline is a strong partner for further growth, given that the low-cost sector is growing faster than any other in the aviation industry. Our aim is to consistently expand the range of flights on offer in both Leipzig/Halle and Dresden.”

Wizz Air is the second low-cost airline to launch summer season flights from a Mitteldeutsche Flughafen AG airport within just a few weeks. The Austrian airline Laudamotion announced its commitment to Dresden in mid-February. It will be flying an Airbus A320 to Palma de Mallorca daily from 13 June. Overall, it is operating services to about 80 destinations during this summer timetable, 44 of them destinations from Moscow. The airline carried 4.6 million passengers in 2017.

About Leipzig/Halle Airport
Flughafen Leipzig/Halle GmbH is a subsidiary of Mitteldeutsche Flughafen AG. It handled about 2.57 million passengers and 1.22 million tonnes of air freight in 2018. Leipzig/Halle Airport is therefore the second-largest cargo airport in Germany and the number five in Europe. The airport is linked to the A 9 and A 14 motorways and has a railway station that is an integral part of the central terminal. This means that passengers can directly reach the check-in area from the station and the multistorey car park.
