Budapest, Hungary, 2014-2-28 — /Travel PR News/ — Wizz Air, the largest low-cost airline in Central and Eastern Europe, today announced the new title sponsorship of the Budapest Half Marathon in partnership with the Budapest Sport Office (BSI). It is the first time in 18 years that the Budapest Half Marathon has changed its name. It will be held on 14 September as the 29th Wizz Air Budapest Half Marathon.
Since the beginning of the competition in 1984 the number of participants has been continuously increasing. In 2013, for the first time, over 12.000 runners have participated in the event and for 2014 it is expected that this record will be broken in September when participants join the Wizz Air Budapest Half Marathon. In an unprecedented move Wizz Air also announced it is now one of the major sponsors of the “Run in Budapest” umbrella campaign that unites the 3 biggest Hungarian annual running events, namely Wizz Air Budapest Half Marathon, Spar Budapest Marathon and Telekom Vivicitta Half Marathon.
Speaking in Budapest today, József Váradi, CEO of Wizz Air, said: “Today we celebrate Wizz Air’s hometown presence in Hungary. Over the past ten years we have continuously developed our operations, our fleet and route network. We have demonstrated our commitment to Hungary and Hungarian consumers. We at Wizz Air believe in mobility and active living. Our low fares have enabled over 2 million Hungarians to travel in 2013 for work or leisure and it is a fitting partnership to unite the Wizz Air brand with Hungary’s biggest marathons. We aim to enhance the international profile of these events by leveraging the airline’s presence in 35 countries. We call on all Hungarians to join us in the 29th Wizz Air Budapest Half Marathon. ”
