Richmond, Va., 2013-02-26 — /travelprnews.com/ — Steven Spielberg’s movie LINCOLN was filmed entirely in Virginia, in and around the cities of Richmond and Petersburg. Virginia’s LINCOLN Movie Trail and interactive Web site lead visitors to actual filming locations as well as restaurants, bars and shops that were favorites of the stars including Daniel Day-Lewis, Joseph Gordon Levitt, Sally Field, James Spader and other celebrities.
Here are some of the highlights of the LINCOLN Movie Trail as featured in For the LOVE of Travel, with more to discover on www.Virginia.org/LINCOLN:
Historic downtown Petersburg was a ready-made backdrop for filming, thanks to the city’s historic architecture. Places such as the historic farmers market, cobblestone streets, and old train station were used for numerous scenes in the movie. Famous actor and director Tim Reid lives in the area and his studio was used for a dream sequence scene in LINCOLN. Reid enjoys living in the area and is a fan of the Dixie Restaurant, one of the dining locations on the LINCOLN Movie Trail and home of the “Spielberger”.
The majority of the LINCOLN filming took place in Richmond, Virginia’s capital city. Capitol Square served as a major backdrop, with the Capitol itself serving as multiple filming locations. The exterior was transformed to play both the White House and the U.S. Capitol. The interiors of Virginia’s Capitol can been seen at multiple points in the movie including the compelling scenes when the elected officials are voting on the 13th amendment.
Visitors can take in a play or a musical at the November Theater in downtown Richmond, which was also used for multiple scenes in LINCOLN including the scene of young Tad watching the play Aladdin from the balcony.
Jason Roop, Editor of Style Weekly and one of the many Virginians who played an extra in LINCOLN suggests that after visiting the LINCOLN Movie Trail sites, people should visit places where the real Abraham Lincoln visited during the end of the Civil War including the White House of the Confederacy.
The LINCOLN Movie trail experience includes special LINCOLN tours by Segway and guided walking tours.
Each participating trail site is marked with an iconic “LINCOLN was Here” graphic, with more information online about each site’s connection to the movie.
