  • With this acquisition Volaris strengthens its fleet – one of the youngest in America – with an aircraft is estimated to save more than 15 percent in fuel.

MEXICO CITY, 2016-Sep-22 — /Travel PR News/ — Volaris (NYSE: VLRS) and (BMV: VOLAR), the ultra low-cost Mexican airline which operates in Mexico, United States and Central America, unveiled its first A320neo Airbus aircraft at the Lic. Adolfo Lopez Mateos International Airport in Toluca. This acquisition makes use of the latest technology to its fleet, now integrated by 64 aircraft to serve its customers. This A320neo aircraft is the first of 46 (including A320’s and A321’s) that the airline will receive in the coming years.

Volaris is the first airline in Mexico and North America to receive this Airbus model, which belongs to the latest generation of single-aisle cabin aircrafts with 186 seats. The A320neo incorporates a new engine option, along with “Sharklets” – 7.8 feet high aerodynamic devices located on the wings – and an optimized passenger cabin, thus generating a greater efficiency in fuel economy.

The A320neo aircraft helps reduce the carbon footprint of its flights by reducing the annual consumption by more than 15 percent fuel saved per seat, of which 12 percent is reduced by the engine, 3 percent by the Sharklets and an additional percent by the aircraft seating configuration. This involves reducing five thousand tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) per aircraft a year, 50 percent fewer emissions nitrogen oxides (NOx) as well as a considerable reduction in the acoustic fingerprint.

“At Volaris we have always been committed to the future of aviation. We are extremely excited to incorporate to our fleet this new aircraft from the Airbus family with Pratt & Whitney engines, two of our largest and most important allies in the industry. This is the future of aviation! Where we incorporate the most advanced technology to reach a more sustainable industry,” said Enrique Beltranena, Volaris CEO.

“Airbus is proud to deliver the first A320neo in Mexico and North America to Volaris, a loyal customer for 10 years,” said Rafael Alonso, President of Airbus Latin America and Caribbean Region. “Mexico’s strong economic expansion offers a unique opportunity to national airlines – as Volaris – to keep growing and ensuring, at the same time, environmental sustainability with the A320neo as a key player for Volaris success.”

“We want to congratulate Volaris, Airbus and AerCap on today’s milestone in Latin America. We have a long history together and we look forward to continuing to be part of this global team,” said Rick Deurloo, Senior Vice President, Commercial Engines, Sales, Marketing, and Customer Service.

AerCap President and Chief Commercial Officer Philip Scruggs said, “We are delighted to deliver our first A320neo aircraft on lease to longstanding customer, Volaris and particularly pleased to be the first to deliver the aircraft type to a carrier in North America. The A320neo aircraft is one of the most in-demand single aisle aircraft in the world, incorporating the latest technologies and the most fuel efficient engines. We look forward to continuing our successful relationship with our friends and partners at Volaris as the airline continues to expand its presence on the continent.”

Volaris, a socially responsible company, is benefiting from the previously mentioned technical features. Which complement other company campaigns like “Cielito Limpio” which means “Clean Skies” in Spanish. This campaign allows Volaris customers to support projects carried out throughout all Mexico to combat global warming, all in collaboration with the Mexican Carbon Platform MEXICO2.

This first aircraft will fly two key routes for the airline departing from Mexico City. The first bound to Cancun, Quintana Roo and the second to the city of Tijuana in Baja California. The remaining aircrafts will be distributed throughout the Volaris network.

Volaris keeps improving the services we offer our customers. The close relationship we have with Airbus and Pratt & Whitney is crucial to this task and also to fulfill our development plans. Undoubtedly together we will achieve many more milestones.
