Vladivostok Airport Welcomes Guests and Participants of the APEC-2012 Summit

2012-09-06 — /travelprnews.com/ — Vladivostok International Airport (VIA) will be greeting participants and guests of the 2012 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit, which will be held September 2-9, 2012 in Vladivostok.

The Vladivostok Airport conducted a comprehensive IT systems readiness inspection for the new passenger terminal, ensuring that quality service will be provided to guests and participants of the APEC-2012 Summit. Vladivostok Airport’s new Terminal A has been designed in the style of the Summit.

All of the necessary prerequisites have been set up for the appropriate organization volunteers, protocol, and customer service workers to collaborate with official summit guests. The Vladivostok Airport has developed special flight services along with APEC participants so that greeting the delegates will not have a negative impact on services to other airport passengers.

Construction for a new international terminal began in August of 2009. A test flight was done on June 1, 2012. The total area of the passenger terminal is 47.5 thousand sq. m., with a landside of 40 thousand sq. m, and about 30% of the total terminal area is made up of commercial facilities. The terminal building is connected to the Aeroexpress Railway Station.

The new terminal has a holding capacity of 1,360 people per hour, or 3.5 million annually, and is designed for simultaneous international and domestic passenger traffic services at a ratio of 30% and 70% respectively.

The terminal has three floors of concourses, transfer zones, enhanced comfort lounges, rooms for mothers with children, medical facilities, airline representative offices, and facilities for associated agencies. Modern security, registration, automated sorting and luggage inspection systems were used during the process of constructing the terminal building.

The most important principle for designing the terminal space was applying energy-saving technologies and solutions aimed at saving solar energy. Another unique feature of the terminal building was the foundation, which consists of several thousand drilled piles, having a diameter of 800 mm and a length of up to 15 m, as well as a stained glass exterior facing the railway station square that is tilted out over the entire height.

Along with the airport complex, new entrance ways have been constructed: an automobile highway and a railroad line. There is now a new refueling complex there. New engineering infrastructure facilities have been constructed: a boiler room, waste treatment facilities, and an electricity substation for the airport. Facilities have also been constructed for paid and free parking structures, landside, and modernization as well as territory landscaping has taken place.

The aerodrome complex has been reconstructed using federal budget resources: the flight landing strip, railway platform, and lighting equipment. The new barrier around the airport allows the territory to be controlled automatically. The new building for the air-traffic control tower (TWR) allows air traffic to be managed. A new cargo terminal and flight catering department are currently under construction.

The NACO, a Dutch Consortium (Netherlands Airport Consultants B.V) have designed the master plan for developing the Vladivostok Airport through 2030. The development strategy provides for the creation of a hub, allowing for comfortable connections between international and regional flights. Passenger traffic by 2030 is expected to increase to 10 million passengers per year.

To support the development of the airport as an international hub, on November 3, 2011, the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation ratified a decision to lift restrictions on flights for foreign airlines at the Vladivostok International Airport, including flights to fifth “freedom of the air” points between Vladivostok and third countries.

Remember that the precursor to this was the Decree of the Russian President in 2008 that 52.2% of shares for the JSC Vladivostok International Airport were to be transferred to the control of the JSC Sheremetyevo International Airport (JSC MASH) to prepare the city of Vladivostok for the APEC Summit in 2012.

The strategic goal of the Vladivostok International Airport (VIA) is to become a major transport point on the road to Southeast Asia for Russian passengers, and an airport hub for flights between Northeast Asia and North America. Vladivostok is located near the Asia Pacific region.

The development of the Vladivostok Airport will have substantial social and economic benefits, which will result in increased viability on the international air traffic market, and reduce tariffs on international flights from Vladivostok. This will positively impact the accessibility of air transport services, the mobility of the region’s population, infrastructural development, creation of new jobsites, and improvement of the overall quality of life.

Vladivostok International Airport

The Vladivostok Airport network includes flights to more than 30 domestic Russian and international destinations. JSC VIA cooperates with leading airlines in Russia and countries in Southeast Asia, including Aeroflot, Vladivostok Avia (main airline), Transaero, Korean Airlines, China Southern, etc.

The Vladivostok Airfield (Knevichi) is a mountain A-class airfield. It is an ICAO Category II airport and receives all aircraft types (except A-380). It has two civilian platforms (46 aircraft parking areas).

The Vladivostok Airport has a leading location in the Far East region for its high volume of passenger traffic. In 2011, the Vladivostok Airport served 1 million 456 thousand passengers, which exceeded the 2010 rate by 14%. The airport has facilitated more than 6 thousand aircraft departures, which is 16% higher than in 2010. It is expected that from 2012 on, the airport’s passenger traffic will reach 1.8 million passengers.

JSC VIA revenues in 2011 also reached a record high, amounting to more than 1.3 billion rubles.

On April 15, 2011, a new modernized runway (IVPP-1) was commissioned into operation. The airstrip has unlimited permission for accepting all types of aircraft.
