Vienna Airport reports 1.9% increase in passenger volume during September 2014 compared to September 2013

VIENNA, 2014-10-16 — /Travel PR News/ — The number of passengers handled by Vienna Report rose by 1.9% in September 2014 compared to September 2013 to 2,186,382 passengers. Total air cargo increased by 5.4%, whereas the number of flight movements was up 0.7% and the maximum take-off weight climbed by 4.2%.

Vienna Airport reported a 7.5% decline in the number of transfer passengers in September 2014 from the comparable level in September 2013. The number of local passengers was up 5.9% in a year-on-year comparison.

The number of passengers flying to Western Europe increased by 3.1% in September 2014, in contrast to the 11.9% drop in passenger traffic to Eastern Europe. The Middle East region showed an increase of 0.8% in September 2014, whereas passenger volume to destinations in the Far East climbed by 14.7%. The number of passengers flying to North America also increased, rising by 35.8% compared to September 2013.

The strategic investments of Flughafen Wien AG also developed well. Malta Airport reported a cumulative passenger growth of 7.2% in the period January-September 2014 to 3.4 million  passengers. The number of passengers handled by Kosice Airport also rose by 54.2% in the same period to 299,039 passengers.
