Vancouver International Airport Recognized for Sustainability Efforts with Uber’s 2024 Airport Sustainability Award

(IN SHORT) Vancouver International Airport (YVR) has been awarded the 2024 Airport Sustainability Award by Uber for its ongoing efforts to promote Hybrid and Zero Emission Vehicles (ZEVs) at the airport. This recognition underscores YVR’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions and supporting sustainability within the rideshare industry. With new fee structures incentivizing greener transportation options, YVR is paving the way toward a more sustainable future, providing travelers with eco-friendly and cost-effective alternatives for ground transportation.

(PRESS RELEASE) VANCOUVER, 2025-May-30 — /Travel PR News/ — At Vancouver International Airport (YVR), sustainability is at the core of our operations. We are dedicated to finding innovative ways to reduce emissions while maintaining seamless transportation options for travelers. That’s why we are thrilled to accept the 2024 Airport Sustainability Award from Uber, recognizing our shared efforts to promote the use of Hybrid and Zero Emission Vehicles (ZEVs) at the airport.

This prestigious award acknowledges YVR’s ongoing commitment to advancing sustainability initiatives that assist our partners in reducing their carbon footprints. As the demand for rideshare services continues to rise, we are collaborating closely with partners like Uber to implement policies that encourage and incentivize greener transportation options.

Shifting Towards Sustainability in Ride-Hailing
The growth of rideshare services at YVR in recent years has led to an increase in trips, which can, in turn, contribute to higher emissions, especially with gasoline-powered vehicles. YVR is tackling this challenge by prioritizing the use of low and zero-emission vehicles. To make greener options more accessible and attractive to travelers, YVR has introduced new fee structures that incentivize the use of ZEVs and hybrid vehicles. We recently implemented lower per-trip fees for ZEV and hybrid rideshare services, ensuring that fares for these eco-friendly options are now comparable to, or even lower than, their non-green counterparts. This means that passengers departing from YVR can choose a more sustainable ride while also saving on fares.

Committed to a More Sustainable Future
These changes are a significant step in aligning YVR’s ground transportation practices with our broader climate goals. The recognition by Uber through the 2024 Sustainability Award affirms the progress we’ve made. By promoting the use of Hybrid and ZEVs, investing in electric vehicle infrastructure, and supporting our rideshare partners in their sustainability efforts, YVR is moving closer to achieving a cleaner and greener future for all.

We are grateful to Uber for recognizing YVR’s dedication to sustainability. As we continue to refine our approach to sustainable ground transportation, we look forward to working alongside our partners and travelers to create a travel experience that is both efficient and environmentally responsible.
