2013-05-23 — /travelprnews.com/ — Shannon’s options for US bound destinations got a major boost today as US Airways began its daily service to its Philadelphia hub.
The service, which leaves Shannon daily at 11.35 a.m. for the historic city, brings to five the number of US destinations flown to by Shannon this year – the first time since 2009 that Shannon will have had this level of US services.
Philadelphia is a significant addition to Shannon’s summer services given that the airport is one of three US Airways hubs in the United States and offers onward connections to destinations across the US, Canda, Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean.
“Ireland is an important destination for our customers and the return of non-stop service between Philadelphia and Shannon provides travelers with an additional option to reach the Emerald Isle,” said Suzanne Boda, US Airways’ senior vice president, Airport Customer Service, International and Cargo. “US Airways customers in Shannon will also have one-stop service throughout the United States from our international gateway at Philadelphia.”
Said Shannon Airport Chairman Rose Hynes: “We are delighted today to see US Airways back on the runway at Shannon with the Philadelphia service. We have no doubt that it will be a very popular route at Shannon. “Philadelphia’s appeal is heightened by the fact that it is a hub airport for US Airways, with onward connections to more than 100 cities across the United States.”
As an added convenience, customers can clear U.S. immigration and customs before departing Shannon, allowing for a quick and efficient arrival experience at Philadelphia International Airport. Customers who receive pre-clearance at Shannon Airport arrive as domestic passengers, are able to check their baggage through to their final destination and ultimately reduce the amount of time needed to connect to their next flight.
